Job Description:

Summary: Provide engineering design for plastics and basic electrical design controls for new product development, including skills in 3D CAD, product engineering/function, electronic design, detailed product evaluation, product specifications, and detailing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Create robust 3D CAD models utilizing SolidWorks software for new product concepts. Requires great attention to details and CAD models must meet all requirements for manufacturability.

2. Develop efficient, solution driven product designs solving for consumer needs defined within the scope of the project.

3. Be knowledgeable in injection molding, blow molding and basics of injection molding tool design.

4. Requires good knowledge of plastic materials including but limited to polypropylene, polyethylene, ABS and PET.

5. Analyze and verify Solidworks 3D CAD models for new product concepts, with great emphasis on design for plastic.

6. Document new product dimensions by evaluating tolerances and fit/function for all parts, creating 2D drawings from existing 3D CAD files.

7. Create and update specifications required to document new products including bills of material, applicable quality controls, testing protocols, material specifications, 2D CAD dimensions and individual component specifications. Drawings must meet industry accepted criteria for tolerancing, dimensioning and detailing.

8. Interpret industrial design shape and form for proper 3D CAD implementation and manufacturability.

9. Conduct performance testing and detailed dimensional evaluations on new and existing products.

10. Maintain Petmate prototype machines needs such as translate required CAD files for processing, lubrication, material/supply ordering, material cartridge changes and established maintenance.

11. Utilize computer assisted engineering design software and equipment to perform various engineering and evaluations. Maintain and update computer and technical skills as required.

12. Build minimalistic, rough prototypes in Petmate prototype shop as needed to communicate new product functions.

13. Nice to have, but not required: Basic understanding of low voltage electronic circuity. Able to read and understand electronic schematics and datasheets. Basic understanding of microprocessors and microprocessor architecture. Basic understanding of programming and program structures.
