ASAPJob Description Responsible and accountable for high quality
patient care through implementation of the nursing process
including assessment of patient needs (physical, psychosocial,
educational), design of a collaborative plan of care,
implementation of the plan with appropriate delegation of tasks,
coordination of team effort, and evaluation of patient progress
towards outcomes Monitors patient throughout (before/during/after)
the labor Monitors contractions and helps patient with breathing
techniques Performs basic IV and central line skills Performs
phlebotomy skills Administers pain medication as ordered;
administers other meds to address specific medical conditions, such
as hypertension and diabetes Reads fetal monitor & ascertains if
there is a problem with baby's heart rate Takes and records
patient's vital signs, ascertains if problematic Checks patient's
cervix periodically to monitor progression/lack of dilation
Contacts anesthesia when/if patient is ready for epidural; contacts
delivering physician at appropriate time, ascertains proper time
Cares for patients on Pitocin, MgSO4 & continuous lumbar epidural
Ensures patient is in proper position for delivery & all monitoring
equipment is functioning properly Aids doctor with drapes, gloves,
gowns, etc.; hands doctor delivery instruments as needed during
birthing process Other duties as assignedQualifications and Job
Info Minimum of 1-2 years experience as a clinical nurse RN 3 or
more years of current experience as a Labor and Delivery nurse is
preferred Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by
the Texas Board of Nursing BCLS certification ACLS certification
NRP and IFM required Travel experience a plus Demonstrate the
highest level of professionalism when interacting with patients,
families, physicians, and hospital staff members.Benefits Day 1
