Job Summary

The Youth Program Assistant will lead daily activities and engage youth in education-centered after school and summer youth programs, including but not limited to, homework/academic assistance, fitness, reading and enrichment. Responsibilities will be carried out in a predominantly in-person setting with virtual programming if necessary.

Responsibilities And Duties

  • Plan and lead meaningful activities that include but are not limited to arts and crafts, STEM/STEAM, reading, character development, physical fitness, and/or nutrition in a physical and online setting for students at your home site and other sites as needed.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills such as navigating websites, use of email suites (Gmail, Outlook, etc.) and search engines, etc.
  • Prior use of, or willingness to learn, online educational tools such as Google Classrooms, Zoom, ClassDojo, amongst others.
  • Prepare the learning environment, lessons and necessary supplies for program activities in an in-person and virtual setting.
  • Assist children with homework and academic enrichment activities.
  • Maintain a clean and organized classroom as well as common areas.
  • Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful environment that embraces the diversity of all participants.
  • Serve as a positive role model for participants.
  • Maintain accurate program documentation
  • Ensure safety and supervision of students
  • Follow CDC Guidelines to maintain a safe working environment
  • To assist Foundation Communities Food Pantries as needed
  • Comply with all required policies, procedures, and regulations

    Other Duties & Responsibilities:
    • Assist with distribution of snacks and summer meals
    • Chaperone students on walk from school daily (up to 2 miles depending on center) during the school year
    • Other duties as assigned

      Qualifications And Skills
      • Must be eligible to work in the United States and be able to pass a criminal background check (Fingerprint check required at some sites)
      • Must have a high school diploma
      • Must enjoy working with children K-5th grade
      • Flexibility to meet the changing work needs and demands
      • Ability to lead various fitness activities as well supervise/participate in sports
      • Ability to organize activities and make sound judgements
      • Ability to interact with a range of age groups
      • Available to work at a Learning Center Monday through Friday (2:00pm-6:15pm) on a continual basis and may be reviewed if schedule changes during the Afterschool program taking place during the school year.
      • Available during Summer Program hours (10am-3pm), Monday through Friday with some variations to assist in coverage of food pantries across sites.
      • Reliable transportation to travel to other FC sites as necessary
      • Preferred Qualifications
      • Course work in Social Services, Education, Child Development & other related field
      • 6 months experience working with children; preferably providing educational and/or social services to economically disadvantaged families.
      • Bi-lingual (Spanish, Arabic or other) preferred

        Physical Demands/Work Environment :
        • Occasional lifting, twisting, bending standing and sitting
        • Frequent walking and participation is basic exercise movements
        • Often exposed to various temperatures and conditions including but not limited to sun, wind and rain.
        • An occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials may occur.
        • May be asked to clean up bodily fluids with appropriate training and personal protective equipment provided.
        • Ability to work in all types of climate atmospheres, such as hot, raining or wet environments. Inside and outside.
        • Ability to arrive to work locations of which there may various ones throughout the day

            Compensation: Hourly rate depending on qualifications and relative experience; starting at $15/hourly. Sign-On Bonus of $300 with half paid upon hire and the other half after 90 days of employment.
